PROJECT HOPE IN NORTH TONAWANDA

Project HOPE has traditionally been a North Tonawanda project, but this year it expanded into Tonawanda as well! In North Tonawanda, Painters Plus Home Decorating Inc. painted for a mother who had recently lost her son. In Tonawanda, Painters Plus Home Decorating Inc. painted for a family that has faced multiple hardships this year including illness and disability.

In 2010, Gooch wanted to give back to the community that has been so great to him and his business. He founded Project HOPE. Project HOPE stands for Helping Others Paint Exteriors. The reason behind Project HOPE was that Gooch noticed many exteriors of homes which had dingy and loose paint. It made him ask to himself, “Is it because of neglect or is it because the homeowner is disabled or going through financial hardship?” The second reason is what motivated Gooch to launch this city-wide annual event. He presented his idea to the city’s mayor and got full support from the mayor and other city officials. Gooch was able to gather up between 20-30 volunteers and has been able to repaint the exterior of a disabled Vietnam vet in 2011 and a disabled 90-year-old widow in 2012. Then in 2013, he did it for SERVE Niagara, which was a home for wounded warriors. In 2014, he did it for a single mother with a terminal illness and 3 children, and in 2015, he helped another disable vet who was also a cancer survivor and a widower. In 2016, Painters Plus helped a family battling cancer, and in 2017 they painted Active Hose Fire Hall.

The house must have peeling dingy paint and be in need of a real paint job.
